		Snappy Chef originated as one of Sam and Rose Port's (pictured right) many business ventures, circa 1973, as a comfortable neighborhood diner on Logan Boulevard near Mansion Park in Altoona. In its day, Snappy Chef served delicious cream of potato soup every Friday. It also featured a nostalgic ice cream counter. Nearly two decades later, the Port's granddaughter, Sue Port, became engaged to Chef Doug Simon. In 1992, the couple purchased the Casino at Lakemont Park and were married there two days after its purchase. As The Casino thrived, clients increasingly requested off-site services. The Casino expanded to meet demand in 1998. The Simons aptly chose to revive an old family business name-Snappy Chef. Snappy Chef catering has grown beyond initial expectations and now services Altoona, Bedford, Johnstown, Huntingdon and State College. For business and personal events, make Snappy Chef your family tradition! Chef Doug Doug Simon (pictured right) realized his childhood dreams and became a chef in 1989. He graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI, with a Bachelors degree in Food Service Management and an Associate of Science degree in Culinary Arts. Previously, he earned a Bachelors degree in Economics with a minor in Philosophy from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Chef Simon's training includes his work for The Park Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C., as well as at Stouffer's Top of the Sixes in New York City. Chef Simon moved to Altoona in 1992 and resides with his wife, Sue Port Simon, a native of Altoona, and daughters, Abigail and Phoebe.
